Turkey on Thursday reported a drop of 6.3 percept in industrial production in August 2009 over the same month in 2008.
The industrial production index was released by the Turkish Board of Statistics (TUIK) in Ankara. The industrial production in manufacturing was down 7.2 percent, and it was 3.6 percent down in electricity, gas and water in August this year.
However, it said that the industrial production was up 0.6 percent in mining in August this year.
Turkey's industrial output dropped 9.2 percent year-on-year in July, a slower contraction than in June, the board said.
Turkey's economy shrank a painful 13.8 percent year-on-year in the first quarter, the largest slump since 1945, hit by dwindling foreign orders and weakening domestic demands.
Unemployment recovery is not around the corner and Turkey stands to struggle with high jobless rates for several years to come.
The government forecasts unemployment as an average 14.6 percent in 2010, very close to this year's expectation of 14.8 percent.
