Natural stone distributor AG&M Inc. has invested more than $3 million to create the preeminent showroom of the Southwest. The new facility aims to position the company on the forefront of an industry becoming more adept at creating a better experience for consumers.

AG&M, which stands foritectural, Granite & Marble, was the first natural stone distributor founded in the Austin, Texas, area back in 1992. The Seiders family has owned and operated the company since inception. While the founding family is still at the helm, AG&M has also expanded into four other major cities – with the capacity to deliver product across the U.S. and Canada. The local family business of 15 years ago has now grown into a national distribution chain with more than 60 employees. Its product line features more than 120 colors of natural stone in slabs from Brazil, India, China, Europe and beyond, as well as a new agreement with Kohler to display and supply its line of sinks, faucets and accessories.

The growth left the company landlocked and in cramped headquarters. An expansion was in order. But instead of simply aiming for more elbow room, AG&M's leadership determined now was the best time to reposition the company for the future – primarily by creating the ultimate showroom experience.

"Not only did we need to expand, we also wanted to set a new benchmark for showcasing our product to both our builder clients and the end consumer," said Jack Seiders, president of AG&M. "This new space offers a superior shopping experience."

"Gone are the days of driving up to a dusty parking lot, looking at some large slabs and hoping your granite countertop blends well with other elements in your home," Seiders continues. "Today's consumers want to 'see' that granite with a backsplash, cabinets, flooring and the kitchen sink. That's exactly what we'll be able to let them visualize. "

The new experience begins with the company's new web site, which now features online galleries of the company's main products, like granite, marble, limestone and specialty tiles. But the main attraction is the new showroom, which Seiders notes is designed to keep pace with those found in only the largest urban areas, such as New York. On top of showcasing the company's wide array of product lines, on-site 3D-imaging software enables customers to instantly visualize how all their choices look and feel together. "The ultimate goal is to bring a major metropolitan-quality facility to the Texas Hill Country," Seiders said.

AG&M's expansion plan included a move from a 2.77-acre site to a 19-acre campus at 19012 State Highway 71 West. Its previous 2,500-square-foot office and showroom quadrupled in size to a spacious 10,000-square-foot building featuring a 4,000-square-foot showroom. The company has consolidated its tile warehouse, previously located in North Central Austin, to the new property with a 30,000 square foot space dedicated to tiles. Slabs can be selected in a one-of-its kind yard serviced by traveling gantry cranes.

As part of AG&M's commitment to the consumer experience, the company recently hired an interior designer, Katie Marchand, to assist designers and homeowners with selections and design ideas.

"Today's consumers want options, options and more options. At the same time, they want to know exactly how all their choices and preferences will look before making a major investment in their home," Marchand said. "Our new showroom is tailored with that mentality in mind, and we think it will serve us well for years to come."

In addition to the more than $3 million investment in the Austin area headquarters, AG&M is also expanding its offices in other cities, including San Antonio and Nashville, Tennessee.
