Choose a Vase for Flower Arrangements

Updated:2014-06-13 03:44:18
A vase should do more than serve as a container for your flowers; it should complement the arrangement itself. The shape of the vase, the lines of the body, and the curve of the lip are essential considerations when you choose vases for flower arrangements. Accentuate the height of your flowers with a tall, skinny vase, or showcase the fullness of an arrangement with a wide-mouthed one. Consider the color of the flowers in comparison to the color of the vase.

Instructions as follows:

Firstly, examine the flowers. Determine the type of arrangement. Measure the tallest flower of the proposed arrangement.
Secondly, calculate the height of a vase. Rule of thumb is that the tallest flower should be no more than 1.5 times higher than the vase. If your tallest flower is 9 inches, divide it by 1.5 to determine the vase should be 6 inches.
Thirdly, identify the width needed for the base. Balance the size of the body of the flower pot against the proposed arrangement. Choose a wider vase for a wider arrangement.
Fourthly, pick the color. Select one that complements the flowers in the arrangement. Select a bright cherry red vase for a Christmas arrangement of greenery and red berries, while a white or clear vase works well with white roses, calla lilies or gardenias.
