Clean Marble Floors to become shiny

Updated:2014-02-20 09:09:17
When compared with other stones, marble is very soft, and therefore commonly used in low-pressure areas such as walls or columns. However, marble floors are not unheard of, and over time heavy traffic will dull and scuff the marble floors. Acidic solutions and coarse cleaning products easily scratch and mar marble, so you must be very careful with your choice of cleaning methods. Follow up the cleaning with polish or wax to restore shine and make the floor look like new.

Instructions as follows:

Firstly, dry mop the floor with a dust mop to remove surface dust, dirt and other particles. If possible, spray the mop with anti-static spray so that it will attract the particles, collecting more dust.
Secondly, dip a clean mop in plain, warm water and squeeze it out as much as possible, so that the mop is damp but not soaked or saturated. Mop the floor with the damp mop; this will collect any particles that you missed, and will also help to eliminate light stains. Do not saturate the floor, as the porous marble block can absorb too much water.
Thirdly, dry the floor with a terrycloth mop or soft paper towels to remove residual water. Inspect the area. If you find stains you missed with the mop, dampen a soft sponge or rag in warm water and add two to three drops of dishwashing liquid. Scrub at the stain until it is gone, and then dry the area.
Fourthly, mop the floor with a pH neutral floor cleaner, if necessary to remove tough stains. As before, only lightly dampen the mop with cleaner, and dry when you are finished. These tougher cleaners, available from flooring specialty stores, will cut stains without damaging the marble countertop. Rinse the floor in plain water when finished.
