Updated:2014-03-10 10:32:34
Cultured stone is a manufactured material that comes in a variety of styles and colors. It is ideal for interior walls and easy to install because it's lightweight. It also takes less time to install than heavier, real stone. This saves you time and money in construction costs. If you are capable of tackling minor construction projects, you can build a cultured stone wall without hiring a contractor.
Secondly, staple the metal lath to the vapor barrier, affixing a staple every 6 inches.
Thirdly, mix the mortar with water in a bucket according to the directions on the package. Stir well with a paint stick until the mortar is smooth.
Fourthly, spread mortar in a thin, even layer on the metal lath, using a trowel. Let the mortar dry thoroughly.
Fifthly, cut pieces of the culture stone with a circular saw so they fit in the pattern you want on the wall.
Sixthly, apply a layer of mortar on the back of each stone with the trowel and place each on the surface of the wall, starting from the corners and working toward the center of the wall. Put pressure on each stone and hold for a few minutes until it is set in the mortar.
Seventhly, fill the grout bag with mortar and squeeze mortar between each stone on the wall. Wait for a few hours before brushing off any excess mortar with a broom.
