Repair a Stain on a Granite Countertop

Updated:2014-05-04 11:27:18
Granite is a type of stone that homeowners commonly install in their kitchens or bathrooms. You can use commercial, professional granite cleaners or you can make your own with common household products. Never use vinegar or lemon juice to clean granite countertops as they could etch the surface of the granite. Also, avoid harsh abrasive cleaning tools that will also scratch the countertop.

Instructions as follows:

Firstly, wet the area with clear water.
Secondly, add hydrogen peroxide to powdered whiting according to the whiting manufacturer's instructions. This will make a thick paste that is the same consistency as toothpaste.
Thirdly, spread the paste over the stained area so that it is 1/4-inch thick.
Fourthly, cover the pasted area with plastic wrap, which will prevent it from drying out very quickly.
Fifthly, let the covered paste sit for one day until it has dried out completely. The paste will suck out the stain from the granite.
Sixthly, wipe up the paste with a cloth soaked in clear water.
