Select a Bathtub

Updated:2013-08-05 15:23:59
Buying a bathtub might be more challenging than you think. There are lots of styles, sizes and colors from which to choose. But that means that, with a little expenditure of time and effort, you will be able to choose a tub that fits with your decor and your budget. Then all you have to do is start the water, add a little bubble bath, and sink into a relaxing experience in your brand new tub.

Instructions as follows:

Firstly, research types of tubs. Recessed tubs sit right against the wall, which makes them a space-saving option. Corner tubs fit snugly into a corner of your bathroom and are usually box-shaped. Drop-in bathtubs are set into the floor and can have rims or be rimless. Freestanding bathtubs stand on four legs and do not rest against the wall.

Secondly, factor in how you will be using the bathtub. This will help you determine which size bathtub you need. Sometimes the space you have dictates the size, but some bathrooms allow more flexibility. If you plan to take long, lounging baths, you might consider a larger tub, such as 72 by 16 inches. Smaller tubs that are used primarily with showers are usually a standard 60 by 14 inches.

Thirdly, keep your personal style and preferences in mind, as well as the style of your bathroom. Bathtubs come in many different shapes, styles and colors. Select one that matches your bathroom and your taste.

Fourthly, pay attention to the price of the bathtubs in the bathroom you're considering, including the upfront price and the installation price. Because recessed bathtubs are finished on only one side, they tend to be the most inexpensive choice. Antique cast iron freestanding tubs are the most expensive option.

Fifthly, look at bathtubs that have a whirlpool option. It will require installation of special framing, an electrical circuit and a heater. Whirlpool bathtubs have massaging jets and nooks to sit on within the tub, so you should select the largest bathtub you can fit and afford if you opt for a whirlpool.
