Zoning approved for new rock quarry
A rock quarry near Reading earned approval Wednesday night from the Lyon County Planning and Appeals Board meeting.
Sam Seeley, Lyon County zoning administrator/floodplain manager, said this morning that Dale Davies owns the property at Kansas Highway 170 and Road W, which was the land requested to be rezoned for a rock quarry. The property is about 80 acres. Don Jones is the owner of Reading Rock, who will be quarrying the site.
"They're rezoning the whole amount," Seeley said on Monday. "They are (planning on) quarrying close to the center of the property. It's an extension of the rock quarry that is already there. Just to the north of it, they have been quarrying."
In other business, the board approved a request from Harry Haag to zone about 10 acres at 714 Road U for a single-family dwelling.
